Welcome
More than anything else, the practice of natural history observation informs my approach to photography. A camera is as important a tool as a hand lens and binoculars for overcoming the limits of my "naked eye," but it serves a role those other optical devices cannot—which is helping me to see differently, to uncover the essence of things in the world. Accordingly, I try to make each image something close to a well-done entry in a naturalist's field journal: a rich, detailed, and shareable record of a unique moment of discovery, insight, or wonder.
I share the images collected here in hope that they can inspire, bring joy, and engender appreciation of the world.
About buying images
If you find an image in one of the galleries you want to give to a friend or have hanging on your wall, you can order prints of different sizes. Depending on the relative sizes of the original and the desired print, the original may be cropped (although you have control over how this is done). These orders are fulfilled by a lab in Kansas with an excellent reputation. For more control over size, dimensions, mounting, finish, and paper, you can purchase a full-resolution download of the image and order a print from the lab of your choice. Contact me if you have any questions about this.
